Our Verdict on the iBaby Care M7 Baby Monitor

The iBaby Care M7 is the most features-rich WiFi baby monitor on the market at the moment. The iBaby M7 is a premium monitor with a premium price. Sound and video quality are excellent and we like the extensive lullabies and bedtime stories library. The extra TVOC tracking is brilliant too (we explain TVOC below if you’re not sure what that means).

A solid package overall, but it’s only justified if you’re a tech parent that is comfortable with a smartphone and if you have a reliable WiFi connection at home.

Our Hands-on Review of the iBaby Care M7 Baby Monitor

Baby Gear Essentials iBaby Care M7 wifi review

If you’re a tech parent and want a baby monitor that has all the bells and whistles, you will love the iBaby Care M7. WiFi streaming? Checked! Two-way communication, lullabies, infrared night vision, and soothing nightlight? Checked, checked, checked, and checked! The iBaby Care M7 can even smell if it’s time for your baby’s diaper to be changed (see TVOC feature below).

The monitor will send you an alert on your phone if it detects sound or movement in your baby’s room. It will also alert you when it is time for feeding or a diaper change. You can easily add multiple users so you and your partners can both keep an eye on your baby. Because the signal is streamed on the internet, friends and family can also install the app if you want.

All that of course comes at a price. The iBaby Care M7 is one of the most expensive baby monitors that we’ve reviewed.

Is the M7 premium price justified? Sure, if you can take advantage of all its features with a strong and reliable WiFi network at home and if you enjoy tech gadget. But if you’re looking for something simpler and less expensive, we recommend you look at the Eufy SpaceView instead. The M7 little brother, the M6S is also a good option to consider for half the price but with nearly identical features (except the nightlight and diapers changing detector).

Audio and Video Quality

The audio and video quality with the iBaby Care M7 is excellent. You get a 1080p camera, which is nearly double the resolution of every other camera in our tests. Assuming that you bought your mobile phone in the past 4 years, the picture will look great on your screen.

If your WiFi connection is reliable, it will provide you with a smooth streaming experience. And because it’s streaming on the Internet, you can access the video feed even if you’re not home. If you’re having dinner outside, you can just check on your baby with your phone to make sure the babysitter managed to put them to bed on time.

The camera on the iBaby Care M7 offers infrared night vision so you can clearly see your baby even in the dark or low light. The camera will automatically switch to night mode if the light is too dim in your baby’s room.

Another good feature of the iBaby M7 is the ability to remotely pan, tilt, and zoom the video image as needed via the mobile app. You can tilt the camera on a 360-degree horizontal angle for a complete view of your baby’s room. While in practice the monitor will probably be placed in a corner and thus not require such a wide rotation angle, the feature does provide you with flexibility if needed. In our tests, the baby monitor did particularly well with keeping the noise level down when panning or tilting the camera.

Two-way Communication

The iBaby Care M7 has an option to talk to your baby through the camera’s speaker if you want. The two-way talk function can easily be accessed by pressing and holding the microphone button in the iBaby mobile app.

Play Any Music, Lullabies, White Noise and Bedtime Stories You Like

Another advantage of using a WiFi baby monitor with a mobile app is that you can virtually play any song or bedtime stories you like. The iBaby app comes preloaded with a few lullabies, white noise, and bedtime stories, but you can connect it to your own music library if you want more options.

iBaby Care M7 Total Volatile Organic Compounds (TVOC) Feature

We’ve seen room temperature and even humidity monitoring in other baby monitors before, but the iBaby M7 brings it to a whole new level with air quality control! In the app on your phone, iBaby will alert immediately if it detects dangerous volatile organic compounds (VOC) in the air near your baby. Benzene and ethanol left by some cleaning products are some of the compounds that can cause serious injury to you and your baby, so this is a neat feature to make sure that your baby’s room is safe before you put them to bed.

Security: iBaby Care M7 Baby Monitor Hacking

Because the iBaby Care M7 is using your WiFi connection to stream the audio and video, it’s potentially more prone to hacking. Unlike an encrypted radio signal, such as FHSS or DECT, WiFi baby monitors do not require you to be in physical proximity of the camera to see what’s happening.

That means that if a hacker manages to breach your router security, they could tap into your baby monitor. You should read this article on baby monitor hacking to make sure that you understand the risk and learn how to appropriately protect yourself.

iBaby Care M7 Health and Safety

Since the iBaby Care M7 baby monitor uses your existing WiFi network to stream its audio and video signals, it reduces the total number of electromagnetic exposure to your baby. Which is a good thing, of course. Baby monitors that use FHSS or DECT signals need to emit their own radio signals on top of your WiFi connection, which might rapidly exceed the Environmental Protection Agency’s recommendation. Read our article on electromagnetic field if you want to understand what it means in terms of health and safety for your baby.

Just make sure to keep the iBaby Care M7 camera at least 6 foot / 1.8 meters away from our baby’s bed to limit the exposure to EMF.

iBaby Care M7 vs M6S

The iBaby Monitor M6S is an older version of the M7. The M7 was released late 2017 while the M6S dates back from 2016. On the outside, the M6S looks nearly identical to the M7, but it uses VOC Detection instead of TVOC Detection and doesn’t offer nightlight soother nor diaper and feeding alerts. In our comparison of the iBaby M7 vs M6S, they both performed very similarly, however.

The iBaby Care M6S. Look familiar?

For less than half the price of the iBaby M7 however, we think that the M6S is a great alternative to consider if you don’t need the extra features.
